Things You Need to Know about a Smart Interior Design Budget

Updated: Jul 5, 2020

It's extremely important to set a realistic budget from the beginning of your project. It sets everyone up for a much more efficient design process and will create fewer headaches in the long run.

I'll be sharing how we can create a budget together along with some steps you can take to prepare yourself for that conversation.

What is an Interior Design Budget?

It can be hard to look at your home and know what everything is going to cost upfront. A budget can vary widely depending on the scope of the project. There are so many factors involved with everything from material goods, construction and permit costs, labor, delivery, installation fees and so on.

What Impacts Your Interior Design Budget?

While every project is different, some things that impact a project's budget could be the age of a home, the scope of work, location, material and labor choices

How Does Virginia DesRoches Design Help You Create Your Project's Budget?

We believe it's important to create your ideal wish list even before the Consultation. Go through your home and write down what you want to change or add. We will have a conversation at the initial consultation and soon after is usually when the client often realizes it's not possible to have everything on their wishlist while staying within budget.

How Can You Prepare for Our Budget Conversation?

Create a Wishlist

Here's where I will encourage you to determine your wants VS your needs. A "need" is anything that is required to make a room functional. Everything else is a "want". But we all know "wants" are important to make a room feel completed.

As a designer, it's our goal to find a balance between your "wants" and "needs" and budget. We can help you determine where your money will be best spent, all while providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing space.

Research Some Costs in Advance

Sometimes clients decide to wait until they can save more money or go about it in phases. For example, deciding what your priority areas are. Do we start with all the public spaces such as the entry, family room and kitchen? Or do we start off by doing all the bedrooms, where so much of your time is spent?

Don't Forget about Value

I can assure you it is always my intention to search for value. It's the intersection of good price and quality materials, where it matters most.

Come Open to Creativity

I want to make your wishlist come true and create a beautiful space for you as much as possible, though some creative solutions may be required.... and could end up surprising you!

With many years of experience in the home improvement industry, I can assure you I will be with you every step of the way in creating your budget... and in bringing your dream space to life.

Wondering what it will take to start your own design project? We'd love to chat with you about it!

Until next time,
