A Year in Review

Updated: Jul 26, 2020

2019 was a year of growth & opportunity. With 20+ years of experience in Interior Artistry & Painting, we say goodbye to Artful Interior Finishing and hello to Virginia DesRoches Design.

After having the opportunity to be involved in some amazing projects last year, it led me to the decision of completely rebranding my company to focus solely on Residential & Commercial Design.

There's just something so exciting about walking into a space, no matter how tired or outdated it may seem, I get so fired up! The Century House in Acushnet, MA was one of those projects. It took months of planning, coordinating and a good team effort to transform the Ball Room in a very short amount of time. The result was so gratifying and the Goulart's remind me so much of my own family. They have a tight bond and work well together.

The family wanted an upscale, formal and inviting space without losing the small-town country feel that has become their trademark. We used modern materials to upgrade such as this beautiful glued-down Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring from the Atelier Du Chateau Collection ( color Temson ). Switching up the pattern in the Center of the Room helped break up and distinguish the Dance Floor Area.

We played up the architectural detail to enhance the space by adding arched columns and a U-Channel Groove Ceiling. One of our biggest challenges was concealing the old post and beam supports. We boxed in the old columns to beef them up which helped compositionally scale off the room. We used Benjamin Moore Advance Satin in White Dove for all the trim work and Benjamin Moore Gray Owl for the walls. Other stand-out features include the Beautiful Large Scale Crystal Chandeliers from Bristol County Lighting in Taunton, Rustic Cedar Beams and Custom Metal & Wood Signage which was handcrafted from our JVRustic design|build team led by John Foran. I am so grateful to my entire A-Team, DesRoches Brothers Contracting, Steve Gordon Drywall, Joe Bouchard Carpet, Dave Bouvier, Scott Avila Electric, Nelson Cardoso, John Foran, my wonderful assistant Kimberly Samson and all the other trades involved. I have the vision but it takes an army to make it happen.

Why this Blog is different from my other Social Media accounts-

If you’re getting ready to remodel, have an upcoming project you’re looking to DIY, you won’t want to miss a blog. I’ll be sharing a lot of my sources, tips, mood boards, favorite finds, colors and products going into 2020.

What to expect from future blog posts-

My blogs will post the beginning of each month. You can expect to see more Residential Interior Design in the upcoming year. I’m currently re-designing a 3-story Waterfront Summer Home & Cottage in Westport, MA with a coastal & relaxed vibe and a New England Rustic Style Farm-House New Build in Acushnet. I’m very excited to share what I'm most passionate about, hope to see you back here next month.
